Pathway

A synthetic chain of fifteen amino acids known as "Body Protection Compound" — a partial sequence derived from a protein found naturally in human gastric juice, the stomach’s own protective system.

Mechanism

In laboratory research it appears to encourage the growth of new blood vessels (via the VEGFR2 pathway), influence nitric oxide signalling, and increase growth-hormone receptor expression in tendon cells — the proposed reason for its reputation in soft-tissue healing.

Studied for

  • Tendon, ligament and muscle repair after injury
  • Gut health — ulcers, inflammatory bowel conditions, gut-lining integrity
  • Protection against damage from anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Nerve recovery and reduced inflammation generally

Areas of research interest — not promised outcomes.

Where the evidence stands

The animal literature is genuinely extensive and consistently positive — but it originates largely from a single research group, and there are essentially no published randomised controlled trials in humans. The gap between the rodent data and human proof is the central issue with this compound.

Typical protocol

Dosing is individualised and set by your supervising clinician at intake. Published human dosing for this compound is not established; conservative titration and monitoring are part of every protocol.

Contraindications & cautions

Not an approved medicine anywhere — placed in FDA compounding Category 2 in 2023. Prohibited in competitive sport under the WADA code. Long-term human safety is simply unknown. Pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Prescribed only after evaluation by your supervising provider, based on your history and bloodwork.

Important safety information
BPC-157 is dispensed as a compounded preparation under valid prescription only. Compounded medications are not FDA-evaluated for safety or efficacy. Report adverse events to your supervising clinician immediately. Keep refrigerated; keep out of reach of children.
